Idol Gives Back and Compassion International
Filed Under Thought for the Day | Comments Off
I admit it! My husband and I are American Idol fans. We enjoy watching the show together. This past week American Idol hosted “Idol Gives Back,” a two-night special on April 24 and 25 which raised funds to provide financial relief for children and young people in extreme poverty in the USA and Africa. American Idol partnered with Hollywood and major corporations for a worthy cause, while soliciting the support of its fans to bring in over $60 million and counting.
I didn’t donate to Idol Gives Back, however, my husband and I do support 2 children on a regular basis through Compassion International, a faith based ministry that is dedicated to meeting the physical and spiritual needs of children around the world. If you had asked me whether or not we could afford to support two children ($64 a month) when we joined Compassion, I’d have said no. But I often waste much more money on things that I don’t need (softdrinks, chips, etc.). My goal in life is to become debt free so I can help those in need. Yet I knew that I didn’t want to wait for that day to start doing something.
If you ever considered supporting a child, go for it! It’s a decision you won’t regret. “Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12b).

Website (English): http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html
According to PC World and PCMag.com, Spybot-S&D is the best privacy software available and I agree. A few years ago, my computer had problems that were causing all kinds of crazy popups and annoying things to happen. I bought and tried several programs before finding Spybot-S&D, which totally fixed the problem.
This program is free but users are encouraged to make a donation as the programmer works fulltime on the software. I sent him a check and many thanks!!!
Since that time, I have installed it on every computer I own. It’s a great program I recommend highly.
Free Form Script for Websites

Website: http://tectite.com
I just love open source developers who collaborate to improve programs and provide scripts free of charge just for the love of what they do. These resources are comparable to available commercial applications and the open source community far outshines the competitor in the support arena.
Tectite.com offers a free PHP FormMail script, which it claims is the most advanced FormMail ever produced! It provides strong anti-spam features and is always being improved upon.
One of the nice features of the script is the online configuration wizard which creates the files needed to make it work. There is also an upgrade wizard to convert old scripts to the more recent versions.
If you use the script, a link-back is encouraged to support the project.

Give Thanks for What You Have

My husband recently had his 9th hip surgery. Prior to surgery, he was in extreme pain and lost much of his independence. requiring a wheelchair and crutches to get around. Recovery is slow though the expected outcome is good.
When I think about his journey, I am reminded to be thankful that I can walk and have my independence. Though I do get tired and deal with my own health issues (fibromyalgia), I am fortunate in many ways.
Good health is a treasure that we often neglect to appreciate until we no longer have it.
